The Fire Meets The Fury collects live material from a pair of iconic guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan's last recorded performances in late-November of 1989 before being tragically killed in a helicopter crash 8 months later. Taken from The Fire Meets The Fury Tour with Jeff Beck in support of his In Step album and in the midst of newfound sobriety, the exemplary 11-song, 2LP set includes cuts from a concert at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico on November 28th and McNichols Arena in Denver, Colorado a night later.
On the 28th in Albuquerque, Stevie Ray mostly played songs from In Step, including self-penned tunes like “Tightrope” and “Wall Of Denial,” which spoke directly to his addictions, as well as classic blues songs like Buddy Guy’s “Leave My Little Girl Alone.”
The following evening in Denver, however, Stevie Ray, along with guest guitarist Jeff Beck, did not focus strictly on playing songs from the album, but instead had fun rocking out on versions of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child,” both of which are included here.
