The first act of Ray Davies' sprawling rock opera concept album Preservation. To say this is ambitious is an understatement, this thing is all over the place (more so on Act 2) and if you put both acts together, you have three discs! I can't really make heads or tails of the story here so I'm really just focusing on the music. You got lots of horns, backing vocals, vaudeville and campy stuff, like I said before it's all over the place. I can find plenty of good here through all the mess though. Looks like they really lost the plot with Act 2 but this remains a collection of good songs with only a few missing the mark.
