After a couple of albums with declining quality, it all culminates into this album. Angry machines is by far the weakest record Dio ever released. Dio tries yet again to sound 'modern', and wanders off into territory he has no business being at.
The sound of the record is as dry as an desert. It's almost painful to listen to this, as the production is broken down to the cold basics. Even Dio's voice sounds lifeless and twisted. All the tracks are completely worthless, except maybe the closing ballad 'This is your life', with only Dio and some piano. The fact that some people can sit down and truly enjoy this album is way beyond me.
The longest track on the album, called 'Stay out of my mind', is the only track on the album that's written completly without Dio, as it's a track written solely by bass player Jeff Pilson. The reason I mention this track, is because it is exceptionallly bad. There's a break in the middle of it with some keyboards and stuff, trying to be epic or something, but it just makes me laugh....in a bad way.
So, stay as far away from this record as possible. Giving it 1/2 a star for 'This is your life', and 1/2 a star for the cool cover artwork. Luckily, Dio would sharpen up and release some more solid material in his lifetime (R.I.P.), but this album made me more sceptical to Dio's releases.
