Hard to believe I was not up on Little Feat during the 70's. I just didn't know 'Fatman in the Bathtub', 'Willin' ', or even the Byrd's version of 'Truck Stop Girl' were all part of Lowell George's catalog. Needless to say I've caught up since those dark days and I can't say enough about the quality of this Little Feat debut. For the most part the songs range from two to three minutes a piece but they are so packed with notes you would swear they are longer.
The irresistible 'Brides of Jesus' plays in my head when I'm driving home from work and if it wasn't for digging into this album I never would have known the pleasure. Other gems under the radar are the upfront 'Crack in Your Door' and the more subtler 'I've Been the One'. In contrast the Gunboat Willie song is a low point that deflatingly closes the album.
