More info

The original Black Sabbath lineup reunited in December 1997 for two consecutive gigs in their home city of Birmingham. I'm not sure which night the songs from this album are from, probably a combination of both. Anyway, this album is great. It's the classic lineup playing the songs that influenced so many other great artists, and the fact that the show was in Birmingham, England makes the concert even more special. The band plays all their standard classics, and throws in some unexpected songs like 'Spiral Architect' and 'Dirty Women'. The sound of the band is great, with Butler's bass runs, Iommi's heavy riffs, and Ward's flowing drumming. Ozzy is still the energetic front-man that he has always been, urging the fans to 'go crazier than they've ever been in their lives' and even threatening to not continue until he sees the roof rattle. On a side note, this was one of the first albums I bought when I was getting into metal music, and at that time I was playing this album over and over again. Now, I'm a little jaded listening to these metal classics, but I still recommend it both for the great tunes and for the great live show vibe caught on CD. There are also two studio tracks that appear at the end of the album; 'Psycho Man' and 'Selling My Soul' show that the band still has the potential to write great heavy music. As a Black Sabbath fan I would love for the original lineup to write a full album with songs such as the two just mentioned. If that doesn't happen, then I would still be content listening to the band's classic material, and this live album shows that the songs still sound heavy decades after they were written.
